Introduction

Not all formats or genres played on the festival are known in The Netherlands. We’ll explain them here, if possible. However, some formats are being developed right now. We’ll update their descriptions as soon as possible.

Tuesday 26th: Tales from the North

narrative longform by Stockholms Improvisationsteater

Stockholms Improvisationsteater will give everything they got to give you a good, entertaining totally improvised story in the typical Swedish style of “Tales from the north”.

Up in the north of Sweden there is a great tradition of telling storys. Many famous Swedish authors, storytellers and filmmakers comes from the north of Sweden. They bring the tradition of telling stories in to their work.

The stories are often about the ordinary people who live their lives in this world of endless fantastic nature. How they survive through the winter when it is cold and dark. How they love, hate and fulfil their dreams through the long Swedish summer nights when the sun never goes down. It`s a hard, brutal life seen through a poetic, humorous eye.

Wednesday 27th: Smashing Shortforms

Game night with lots of new formats to adapt to your own theatresport shows. See our guests most funky, funny, difficult or technical games and see their take on classic games. This evening is also the labaratorium of short form where new games will be played for the first time and bubbling formats will get a name. A must see for any one who ever plays short form.

Wednesday 27th: Get Up

narrative longform

Get Up is two master improvisers presenting narrative longform at its best. Multiple characters, quick edits, and sophisticated comedy as they make up a complete story on the spot!
Get Up's format begins with the audience randomly selecting the theme music for the show, listening to it, offering ideas as to what images the music suggests...
The performers use that as their inspiration for a improvised comedic one act play.
Expect an active, film-like story, performed by only two people on stage!

“Get Up improvisers Shannon McCormick and Shana Merlin are so in sync, it's scary. Is it supernatural? A mind meld? Or just wicked smart improv?"
-- Austin Chronicle January 30, 2009

Thursday 28th: Music Night

a musical 'hommage' to the city of Amsterdam

“Once upon a time, there was a city called Amsterdam...”
In this musical ode to the city, the international festival cast will get assignments for different kinds of improvised musical numbers. From touching solo’s to big ensemble numbers with dance, all combined in a lively musical show.
Accompanied by the bells of the Westertower, we will travel through time and be inspired by the history of Amsterdam since the mid 19th century all the way up to today. The audience will be asked for ingredients for the songs, and musical inspiration for the combo (consisting of double bass, accordion, piano and percussion).

Concept: Anja Boorsma and Wouter Snoei

Thursday 28th: "Call"

performance by Kolektiv Narobov

Concieved in 2006, “Call” premiered with great success in Edmonton, Canada, in the same year. A show with 48 hanging phonebooks is a fascination by the thousands and thousands of hidden stories behind those names in phonebooks, where the performers try to vividly extract at least a few of them and make them alive. What is the flesh and blood of those names, where do they cut their hair and why have they just stolen an ashtray from their neighbour? “Call” is a wish to plunge into random lives we will never cross paths with.

Friday 29th: This is how we do it!

Teams show their take on different topics from the MC and the audience. What does a sweedish important family dinner look like when it’s improvised? How do the Turks win your heart on a first date? And how do the Americans play with a topic like gezelligheid? Come and get to know the heart of our guest teams.
